Job cuts
Monday, September 15, 2008 16:44I read about all of these job cuts that are taking place and I wonder what people are thinking. The more people that are laid off the less money there is to buy things, so how does it help in the end if you slash jobs but then have no one to buy your products because the firm down the street did the same thing? If I have to cut jobs and then another business cuts jobs because the people that I laid off are not able to buy their products then there are more out of work who cannot buy my products and so it goes on and on.
All this does is depress everything, because if people are unable to find another job or have to take a job that pays less then less will be purchased. It seems that one should not only look at getting rid of the average employee but also see how much can be saved by looking at wages across the board and managing the decreases that way. Maybe not so many would have to be laid off or anyone at all laid off.
Along with this, if the product needs grow, who will be there to do the work? Would anyone want to come back to a firm that had no qualms in letting people go? I think it would make for some very uneasy relationships amongst the employee and management, so that might lead to more problems in the future. And one cannot always count on more people moving in that would take the jobs.
