Re-regulation? What does it say about us?

When President Carter signed the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978 (Mandel,2008) it probably did not enter the mind of anyone that 30 years later re-regulation would start to come back into play. But what does this tell us about how people act when they do not feel that there is any oversight of what they do? Apparently we revert back to the days when we were children and do whatever comes into our minds about things such as taking care of business properly.

Deregulation was supposed to improve competition and lower prices, but that did not happen everywhere as planned. Now, there are massive mergers, financial problems popping up all over the place, and billions of dollars have been lost. I think that when any new laws are considered that there should be more of a review going on, maybe put it out for the public to comment on via the Internet and see how the entire country feels about things.

After all, the whole population can’t do any worse than what the people in Washington have done so far, and maybe a whole lot better!
